And the silliness continues...

More Faffing With The Flying Sub.

Well troops and troopettes, here we go again!.
Onward with some hole drilling, namely the front spotlights and the engine exhaust.
Yeah, I know the front part is clear so why do the drill thing.
Well thing about this is that while it would normally be okedoke, it's also a substantial source of light bleed taking a fair amount of paint to cover.
Not what I had in mind so i'm doing it the hard way.

No surprises there I know.

The engines were back faced with some clear epoxy mixed with clear orange.
While this was curing, the two replacement engine parts from the PE sheet were installed.
Left them just in the raw brass for a change.

Looks nice and sharp methinks so onward.
So right about now, time to layeth on the foil like stuff...oh yes!

Well now, LED doodads to install, used two 3mm 700mcd diffuse whites for this.
The 6000mcd clear were just a bit too much.
Also time to give some thought to support.
Or how this thing is going to sit up in the air on the eventual baseboard this entire debarcle will sit on.
Well I wanted to keep it thin but didn't want to use the suplied kit stand, nice though it is.
Also since it's clear plastic, there's a break just waiting to happen.
So out with some 2.5mm brass tube...

Which both wires will not fit down...

Damn!

Well nothing for it, the negative wire will go down the middle and the positive wire will be soldered to the tube.
A bit like this.

So negative wire to negative battery teminal, positive battery terminal to brass tube.
And it works too.

See?, some of my sudden ideas do actually work out.
Not all of 'em I grant you but this one did so go me!

So mucho slapping on of the epoxy steel stuff to secure and insulate, plus some more shiny gear to spread the light about.
Main man pilot type fella also painted and installed.

Front spotlight holes painted silver, filled out with clear resin and left to cure.
And then time for the redoutable MEK to be brushed on to glue this mess together...finally.
And I gotta say, this is a wee beauty!

And so ends the assembly of this lil' peach.
Filling, sanding and paintwork to be done sure but not too bad at this stage.

What? you want a lighting test as well?!?

Slave drivers the bloody lot o' ya!

Oh all right then...

Well anyone else I can't speak for but that looks pretty damn nice to me.
The front end will look better once I get the paintwork done, speaking of which the finishing and paintwork is up next...
Update that is.

You merry lot go easy now and i'll see ya all next update.
