And so it begins...

I Would Ask That The Lords Of Kobol Have Mercy Upon Me
But I Don't Think That's Going To Happen!

Welcome back gang!

Ok, to begin with, a slight change in things.
Mainly that the given scale of the kit is wrong.

It's advertised as 1/8th but it's more like somewhere in between 1/9th to 1/10th though exactly where is another matter.

Going by some plans i've had for a while from the net, the full size one less wings is some 28 feet and change long.

So going by that, 1/8th would make it some 42 inches or 106.7 cms if you will, in length.

Which this isn't.
So for scale ref purposes, i'm calling it at 1/10th.

So with tat out the way, onward!

First things first is the main forward fuselage and straight in to a problem here.
As noted on the first page, it's not exactly accurate shape wise to my peepers.

So one idea here was to shave down the nose to the correct shape.
After no small amount of thinking, I decided to scrap that idea and do a new fuselage via 3D printing.
So out with the polygon punching program and the results as follows...

A bit more like the Viper nose should be methinks!

This was broken down in to four parts so that each could fit on the print bed.
The holes in each part are for 3mm diameter brass rod to align and hold the parts together.

And after no small amount of hours the printer had done it's bit.

Somewhat better shape wise.
This was then assembled with more than a few dabs of the righteous epoxy resin
and once cured, coated again and sanded smooth.

Panel lines and detailing to be added but a better start and seriously lighter than the original piece.

I'll keep the original around,
seeing it weighs in at about 4 & 1/2 lbs or 2 and a bit kilos metrically speaking,
I may need a door stop or something to threaten cold calling double glazing sales persons with.

Moving on...

The canopy was the next problem, the kit one was nice enough but unusable now so...
